The Artist Behind the Bloom
Rooted in a deep love for the natural world, Painted Bloom Studio is where botanical beauty meets expressive artistry.
Nature Meets Canvas
Painted Bloom Studio is the creative home of Lori Nelson, a self-taught Austin-based artist whose work captures the organic beauty and movement of nature through abstract acrylic painting. Drawn to the expressive possibilities of fluid art, Lori works primarily with acrylic pour techniques – layering color, motion, and intuition to create pieces that feel alive, spontaneous, and deeply personal.
Lori’s connection to art began early in childhood, but it was in 2018 that she fully embraced painting as a regular practice and began sharing her work through exhibitions. Since then, her style has continued to evolve, guided by curiosity, experimentation, and genuine love for the creative process.
Living in a peaceful, tucked-away corner of Austin surrounded by native plants, wildflowers, and freely wandering wildlife, she finds endless inspiration just outside her door. An avid gardener, she is especially drawn to the natural forms and energy of blooms – many of her paintings subtly echo the shapes, colors, and spirit of the flowers that fill her everyday environment.
At home, Lori is accompanied by her beloved 10-year-old Shih Tzu, Opal Rose Marie, whose companionship brings warmth and joy to her daily life. Together, they inhabit a space that feels both grounded and imaginative – a reflection of the artist herself. A free spirit at heart, Lori approaches her work with openness, positivity, and passion. Through Painted Bloom Studio, she continues to explore new techniques, expand her creative voice, and share art that invites others to feel inspired, uplifted, and connected to the beauty that surrounds them.
The Creative Process
Inspiration
Every piece begins with nature — a walk through the woods, watching blooms catch the morning light, or the shifting palette of the seasons. These moments spark the vision for each new work.
Creation
Layers of color build organically on the canvas. I work intuitively, letting texture and tone develop naturally until the piece finds its own rhythm and voice.
Connection
The finished work finds its home — bringing a piece of the natural world into my everyday space, creating a lasting connection between art, nature, and the people who live with it.
What Guides the Work
Nature
Every creation draws directly from the beauty of the natural world — its colors, textures, and quiet rhythms are the foundation of everything I make.
Handcrafted
Each piece is made entirely by hand with care and intention. No prints, no mass production — just original artwork created one brushstroke at a time.
Personal Connection
Art should feel meaningful. I believe in creating work that resonates on a personal level, bringing warmth and beauty into the spaces where life happens.
